Short answer
Centrair’s official English page sends you to different places depending on what you lost: the airport police for money and valuables, your airline for items on the aircraft or at a check-in counter, and Customs for items lost in the international restricted area. If you do not know where you lost it, use the official web form, which gets replies on weekdays 9:00–18:00 JST. Already left Japan?
- Submit the official English inquiry form as soon as possible. The Japanese FAQ says items can be checked for up to 3 months back, so do not wait.
- If you receive a code number from the Call Center, send your ID card through the official ID card form.
- If the item is confirmed found, ask where it is held and how it can be released. The official pages we read do not state a retention period.
- Ask about a representative. The Japanese FAQ says items are returned to the owner in principle, and that a representative must submit documents such as a letter of authorization.
- If you want us to handle the Japanese-language steps or collect on your behalf where allowed, contact us with your confirmation.
- After we receive the item, we pack it and ship it internationally. We quote available shipping methods and fees individually, and arrival dates are not guaranteed.
How Lost and Found Japan can help
- Contact the relevant office in Japanese and relay the answers to you
- Help you prepare the information and documents they ask for, such as a letter of authorization when a representative is allowed
- Collect the item on your behalf, only where the facility allows a representative
- Pack the item and ship it internationally once we have it
- We cannot search the airport ourselves. Centrair’s own FAQ says it does not accept search requests, and we cannot make a facility release an item.
Lost and Found Japan is an independent private service. We are not an official airport, airline, customs or police lost-and-found desk. Consult with us.
